Paul Brodie left his frame-building job at Rocky Mountain Bicycles in 1986 and started welding steel hardtails in Burnaby. He's credited as the first to build the sloping top tube that basically every mountain bike still uses. Forty years on, geometry is handled by Bruce Spicer — 13-time Canadian National Champion — and the team is still small enough to know what they're building.
